New York Life Insurance, Chairman, President & CEO Ted Mathas to Chair ACLI

Washington, D.C. (October 17, 2011) — The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), whose member companies provide financial and retirement security to 75 million families, elected its 2012 Chairman and Board of Directors today at its 2011 Annual Conference.

Elected as Chairman was Ted Mathas, Chairman, President and CEO of New York Life Insurance Company. Mr. Mathas will serve as Chairman for one year.

“We are fortunate to have Ted Mathas lead our Board this year,” said ACLI President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne. “His reputation as a strong industry leader and his insight into the key issues affecting the life insurance industry and its policyholders, make him the ideal choice to be ACLI’s Chairman.”

ACLI also elected James T. Morris, Chairman, President and CEO of Pacific Life Insurance Company to its Chairman-Elect position. Mr. Morris will assume the chairmanship in October 2012. ACLI’s Chairman-Elect designate post was awarded to John D. Johns, Chairman, President and CEO of Protective Life Corporation. Mr. Johns will take over as ACLI Chairman in October 2013. Michael D. Fraizer, Chairman, President and CEO of Genworth Financial will serve as ACLI Immediate Past Chairman in the coming year.

The Chairman and Board of Directors set policy and guide the actions of the association, which represents the life insurance industry in Washington, D.C., the states and internationally.
