There have been some really good trailers released in the past couple of weeks, but none better than this first trailer for  My Week with Marilyn. Michelle Williams embodies Marilyn Monroe; and with a cast this impressive, it’s sure to be an Oscar contender.

The film depicts one week in the life of Marilyn Monroe, which she spends with 23 year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), an assistant to Sir Laurence Olivier who is directing Monroe’s latest film, The Prince and the Showgirl. The film focuses on the time Clark spent with Monroe when her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller, leaves England and Colin is able to introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life.

In addition to Williams, the incredible cast includes including Kenneth Branagh as Sir Laurence Olivier, Emma Watson as Lucy, Julia Ormond as Vivien Leigh, Judi Dench as Dame Sybil Thorndike, Toby Jones as Arthur Jacobs, Derek Jacobi as Sir Owen Moreshead, Dougray Scott as Arthur Miller, Zoe Wanamaker as Paula Strasberg and Dominic Cooper as Milton Greene.

Enjoy!

I, like many, wasn’t entirely convinced when I heard the casting announcement, but Williams looks fantastic in this and every bit the part. She had me glued to the screen with her performance – and this is only a trailer! The film’s cinematography is stunning, and the story looks to be engaging and intimate. Those Brits sure know how to make ’em.

Williams looks to have really sunk her teeth into the role. She recently told Ellen Degreneres “I was never really a very good student… I didn’t go to school for a terribly long time. I think I’m making up for it now. I worked so hard. I read all the books. I watched the movies. I was obsessed with her. I woke up with her every morning and I went to bed with her every night, in a way.”

So what do you think? Is this the next The King’s Speech? What do you think of Williams as Monroe?

In the early summer of 1956, 23 year-old Colin Clark, just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl. The film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe, who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller. Nearly 40 years on, his diary account “The Prince, the Showgirl and Me” was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as “My Week with Marilyn” – this is the story of that week.

Directed by Simon Curtis, the film stars Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine), Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet), Eddie Redmayne (The Good Shepherd), Emma Watson (Harry Potter), Julia Ormond (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Judi Dench (Notes on a Scandal), Toby Jones (Frost Nixon), Derek Jacobi (The King’s Speech), Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible II), Zoe Wanamaker (TV’s My Family), and Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia!).

My Week with Marilyn enchants us on 5 April, 2012. Unfortunately the US and UK gets to see Williams as Monroe on 23 and 25 November this year (respectively). Stay tuned though, our release date may change.
