All vehicles are rented subject to the Terms and Conditions
of the Hertz Rental Agreement, which must be signed by all renters
on pickup of their vehicles. This page is for information purposes only,
and is a brief summary of the Hertz terms and conditions.
Rates
Rates are quoted in South African Rands (ZAR). Rates and conditions
are subject to change without prior notice. Rates include
maintenance, oil and VAT, but exclude fuel.
Rates include limited mileage between 1 and 3 days (limitation of 200 km's per day. An additional charge
per km travelled thereafter will apply), and unlimited mileage from 4 days onwards.
Minimum Rental Charge
The minimum rental period is 24 hours. Rentals are charged in periods of 24 hours
from the date and time of checkout. A 24 hour (one day) minimum charge applies.
Availability
Certain groups and/or models may not be available at a particular
branch.
Extension of Rental
Extension of rentals beyond the original date must be authorised
by Hertz. If an extension is required, please contact AfriCARHire
during office hours (weekdays: Monday to Friday 08:30 - 17:00 / Saturday and Public Holidays 09:00 - 12:00) by telephone or email in order
to qualify for these discounted rates. If the extension is
made directly with Hertz, then the higher Hertz extension
rates will be charged. Failure to comply with this procedure
will result in renter driving the vehicle without Collision
Damage Waiver and/or Theft Protection and without lawful permission.
Cancellation of rental
A cancellation fee of 10% will be levied for all reservations
that are canceled after the reservation confirmation has been
issued by AfriCARHire. A further "No Show Fee" equivalent to R250
will apply, if AfriCARHire is not notified of your cancellation
prior to pickup.
Forms of Payment
Rentals will only be granted to holders of a major credit
card i.e. American Express, Diners Club, Visa, and MasterCard.
Please Note: For the groups F and H the main driver needs to present two credit cards on collection. The second credit card is only for guarantee purposes.
Age/Drivers License
The minimum age for drivers is 23.
Super Insurance Cover
Acceptance of this cover is compulsory for every vehicle rented
out by Hertz. Insurance cover limits the renter's liability
in the event of collision or theft of the vehicle.
Total Insurance Cover - (International Driver's only)
This cover provides the renter with complete cover, which includes
no excess, in the event of collision or theft of the vehicle. This insurance is available for international driver's only. On collection International Passport, Driver's licence and
return ticket is requested by Hertz.
Exclusions
Irrespective of cover purchased the renter will be liable
for the full value of the damage and/or loss where such damage
or loss is sustained in circumstances including but not limited
to the following:
- As a result of driver negligence.
- Where the vehicle is driven by an unauthorised driver
i.e. a driver not specified as a driver or additional driver
on the Rental Agreement.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
- Failure to obtain authorization from Hertz to extend the
pre-booked rental.
- Where accidents are not reported according to the procedures
outlined in Procedures in the event of an accident below.
- Where the vehicle is taken beyond the borders of South
Africa without the written permission of Hertz.
- Where a vehicle is driven on a road or surface not suitable
for the vehicle type rented.
- Collisions where no other vehicle, person, animal or object
is involved.
- Where there has been a material breach of the Terms and
Conditions of the Rental Agreement.
Acceptance of Super Insurance Cover does not cover the renter for damage
to or loss of tyres, rims and hubcaps, for damage to windscreens, for
water and under-carriage damage or for towing charges. These damages are
covered by Total Insurance Cover (the towing charge, however, is not covered).
Personal Belongings
Personal Belongings are not covered by the insurance provided.
Personal Accident Insurance
This insurance covers the renter and passengers of the rental
vehicle in the event of death or permanent disability resulting from a
collision with another vehicle.
Procedures in the event of accident
If the vehicle is involved an incident, is damaged, stolen or lost,
the renter must take every reasonable precaution to safeguard the interests of Hertz,
including but not limited to:
- Nofitying Hertz within 3 hours of becoming aware of the occurance, and
completing a Hertz form within 24 hours
- Obtaining the names and addresses of everyone involved and possible witnesses
- Not admitting responsibility or liability, not releasing other parties from
liabilty, and not settling or claiming
- Reporting all incidents, regardless of value, to the police within 24 hours
and supply Hertz with an accident case number
- Making proper provision for the safety and security of the vehicle
- Co-operating with Hertz and its insurers in any investigation
Use of vehicle
The vehicle may only be driven by the renter or authorized additional driver.
The vehicle may not be driven by the renter:
- To transport passengers and/or goods for reward
- To propel or tow another vehicle (including caravans and trailers), unless authorized
- In motor sport or similar high risk activity
- In an area where there is a risk of civil unrest / political disturbance
The renter must take proper precautions to ensure the safety and security of the
vehicle, including but not limited to locking the vehicle properly, activating the
immobilizer, alarm (if any) and anti-theft device (if any).
Over Border Rentals
Written permission from Hertz is required before taking a
vehicle beyond the borders of South Africa. An "over border"
fee will be charged by Hertz for excursions into Mozambique,
Namibian and Botswana. A drop-off charge is levied for rentals
terminating outside South Africa.
- Vehicles are allowed into Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland and Mozambique
- Vehicles are not allowed into Angola, Zambia or Zimbabwe
The following over border fees apply:
- Mozambique - R1200
- Botswana - R1200
One Way Rentals
Domestic
For rentals terminating at a location that is a distance
of 150kms or more away from the original renting branch, a
R500.00 one-way fee applies.
International
For rentals terminating outside South Africans borders a one way fee applies:
- South Africa to Namibia - R3800.00
- All other countries are not allowed
Delivery & Collection
A delivery and/or collection fee will be levied. In addition any toll fees or
game park entrance fees will be billed.
- 25 Kilometres or less - R220(minimum charge) during office hours and R400 after office hours
- 26 Kilometres or more - R8.00 per kilometre thereafter
Please Note: Hertz may phone you prior to releasing the vehicle for delivery to arrange to collect you (the renter) and take the you (the renter) to the branch for the necessary
security checks.
This procedure is up to the Branch Manager's discretion.
Contract Fee
A contract fee is included in the rate.
No Show Fee
A no show fee of R250.00 will be charged where applicable.
Additional Charges
All fines and penalties incurred during the rental period
are for the renter's own account. Loss of keys will result
in an applicable charge being levied. A valet charge may be
levied on dirty vehicles. In addition a R199 handling fee
will be levied on traffic penalties incurred. A R500 claim
administration fee will also be charged in the event of an
accident and/or theft of vehicle if taken Super Cover. The claim admin fee is included in Total Cover.
Other charges, Authorities - Excess, Fuel, Additional equipment and contract fee
A hold will be taken against your credit card on initiation of the rental. This hold differs,
depending on your vehicle excess and insurance.
Details of authorities:
- When you request Super insurance cover a hold of ±R1200 plus extras will be taken on pickup. A hold for the excess amount will be taken.
- When you request Total insurance cover a hold of ±R1200 plus extras will be taken on pickup
Additional Driver Surcharges
- Additional drivers are charged at R200 per rental per driver.
Additional Equipment
- Child seats are charged at R250 per rental per seat.
- Second Spare Wheels at R200 per rental per wheel.
- Petrol can at R230 per rental
Fuel
Each Hertz vehicle leaves with a full tank and the renter pays for refuelling
on return. Each vehicle is refuelled on termination regardless of whether or not the fuel
gauge indicates that the vehicle is full.
Rental Requirements
The client would be required to supply the following on pickup:
- Credit card (in the main driver's name)
- Name, address, telephone number and email address
- Local contact details
- A valid drivers license and passport. (International drivers
license required for non-South African citizens).
- Internation client: Return Air-ticket when booked total cover

As noted above, this page is for information purposes only. The Hertz rental
agreement is the only legal document, and may have changed subsequent to the
writing of this page. We encourage clients to read the rental agreement printed
on the reverse of their rental document.

Government Tax
- Tax is included in the rates but may be subject to change in accordance with
Government Legislation in which case rates will be adjusted accordingly
