User account

Do you want to keep track of your progress and record your High Scores? To do so, create an account with a Username and Password. It's important to use a real email address for your profile. It will be needed if you forget your password.

After creating a profile you can modify any part of it, except your Username, by clicking on “Modify my profile” located in the User profile pane of the upper right hand corner.

Do you want to look around and try AiPai before creating a profile? Be our Guest! As a Guest you can do everything except keep track of your progress and get your score into the High Scores list.

If you're a Kativik School Board teacher, you must tell us you are a teacher. Once you have created your account, contact us by clicking “CONTACT US” (Website footer). You will then be able to follow your students' progress by using the Admin section of AiPai Web.

After registering, you'll be able to view or edit your students’ profiles by cliking on “My Students’ Profiles” in the User Profile Pane at the top right hand corner of AiPai Web. You'll be able to see how many lessons each student has completed, what average speed they have achieved, and you'll even be able to change their password in case they lost it.

Select your keyboard layout configuration

In the keyboard configuration screen of AiPai Web, choose the keyboard and layout description that matches your computer and keyboard.

On Windows computers, there are two configurations that work. With the older keyboard layout, you need to set your computer's keyboard layout to “Inuktitut-Nunavik [Unicode]”. Or if you use the newer “Inuktitut Keyboard for Nunavik” set it to “Enabled” mode. You do not need to select a keybard layout in the Control Panel.

On Mac computers, use the newer “Inuktitut Keyboard for Nunavik” and set it to “Enabled” mode. You do not need to select a keyboard layout in System Preferences.

For all computers, you will have to press the Caps Lock key before beginning to type in syllabics.

Special note for IE7-XP and IE8-XP users

Internet Explorer 7 and 8 on Windows XP do not properly display syllabics without going to change a setting in the Internet Options. If you use Internet Explorer with Windows XP and are having problems displaying AiPai Web syllabics characters please see the page Viewing this website in Inuttitut of the Kativik School Board website.

Learn, Practice or Race

Don't know any of the keys? Then you should do some of the lessons from Learn before trying Practice and Race. Already know some of the keys? Then you might want to try a Race right away or a 5-minute practice, just to see how good you are! Need more practice with certain keys? Pick and choose the lessons in Learn that will help.

Remember to press the Caps Lock key before beginning, and to type all the words, spaces and punctuation!

AiPai Web will let you type a mistake but if you make two or more mistakes in a row, your progress will be stopped until you type the correct syllable.

You can move between the Inuktitut, English and French interface at any time without losing your progress.

Contact us or Contribute

We are interested in hearing from you! Please send us any comments you might have about the program or ideas for future versions. You can also send us Inuktitut texts that we could add to the Practice or Race parts of AiPai Web.
