Lying in the next-door valley to Zermatt, Saas-Fee (1,800 m) is sometimes overlooked, mostly because it doesn’t have any train access. However, were it not for the Matterhorn next door, the array of peaks around Saas-Fee would take centre-stage on any Alpine itinary. The totally traffic-free glacier town Saas-Fee is one of four linked villages lying in one of the most scenically beautiful and diverse valleys in the Valais and is surrounded by 13 4,000-metre peaks (the other three villages are Saas-Balen, Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell). The heart of the Saas-Fee village is full of shops and some boutiques, but still with much character and charm.
