Budget Getaways Review

Located at the Ceres end of Bainskloof Pass and overlooking two rivers, Mount Bain Private Nature Reserve is a secluded mountain hideaway with a tranquil retreat circled by fynbos and craggy rock.

Perched on the mountain slopes Moon Gazing Cabin comes with two bedrooms (one double, two singles), a bathroom with shower, and a living area equipped with a huge fireplace that can be used to braai that ox waiting patiently in the Coleman.

The kitchen is fully-equipped and has a gas fridge and burner - gas also provides your hot water. Outside there's a wide stoep sensibly protected from the elements. Awesome views stretch out from every angle.

Moon Gazing Cabin doesn't come with bedding or towels - so don't forget to pack accordingly. The cabin is Eskom-free (as a spot like this should be), which adds to the away-from-it ambience.

The nearby rivers and pools of Bainskloof offer access to great fly fishing and swimming, and the surrounding rugged topography gives rise to good mountain biking, hiking, diverse fynbos, bird life and small game. The private reserve is also well appointed for easy reccies into the hinterland, with plenty in the way of wine estates, restaurants and low-brow culture to keep you satisfied.

Guest Reviews

"We spent a weekend at Riet Dak Huis and I can highly recommend this establishment. It's a beautiful house tucked away in the mountains, with the most spectacular views. The house is comfortable, very spacious and has a lovely patio overlooking the mountains, not to mention the cosy fireplace in the lounge. We had a fantastic time and will definitely go back again."
