Lucien van der Walt. “(Re)Constructing a Global Anarchist and Syndicalist Canon: A response to Robert Graham and Nathan Jun on Black Flame”

In this brief text, Lucien van der Walt, one of the authors of Black Flame: The Revolutionary Class Politics of Anarchism and Syndicalism, debates with two other authors on the issue of the anarchist canon. Van der Walt presents relevant theoretical and methodological reflections for studies of anarchism; proposing a historical and sociological methodology, he defends himself from accusations of other authors, that his approach would be narrow and dogmatic, and demonstrates that distinctly, it seeks to be global and emphasizes anarchism as something important to the present days. He denies the argument sustained by the authors that there are several “anarchisms”, sustaining that, there is, in historical terms, one broad anarchist tradition, which shares common principles and has in M. Bakunin and P. Kropotkin its greatest representatives.
