The main function of a rheostat is to adjust the circuit
current between the maximum current at the minimum
resistance value, and the minimum current at the rated
resistance.

Rheostat resistance value:
Power Rheostat doesn’t have standard resistance values.
Customers determine the lower and upper resistance
values according to their current ranges, though there
might have limitations because of resistance material
availability.
Two rheostats with the same power rating doesn’t mean
they have the same maximum load current capacity.

Different load current and
resistance ranges combinations need different resistance material to
withstand the current and achieve the resistance value.

There is no
standard rated resistance or resistance material that
suitable for all applications even with the same rated
power.
