Taking Health Care Planning to the Cloud: A Migration Success
Story Natalie Underhill, University of Michigan Health System |
This presentation will give all attendees of MOUS 2018 who have
considered cloud hosted applications, hope! If you currently manage your
organization’s Hyperion Planning application on premise and are
considering a cloud migration to Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud
Service (PBCS), this is the presentation to attend. It is a real life example of a large health care organization who struggled with the costs of managing the complex infrastructures of on-premise applications and was looking to define a vision for future application administration that would facilitate faster and higher quality financial management and analytics. The presentation will illustrate some of the real world challenges organizations face today and how painless it can be to take your planning application to the cloud. The ideal target audience for this presentation will be the decision makers, hands-on front-line systems administrators and power users. The folks who understand the frustrations of managing on-premise applications and are seeking to take control of their hosted application strategy. They know their users and understand the fear of change but are poised to move their Organization forward and maximize their resources and improve decision making. The presentation will set the stage by describing the old application and budgeting process at the University of Michigan Health System. It will highlight the pain points faced and will describe the process used to develop a cloud hosted strategy and why moving the Hyperion Planning application to the cloud was the right decision. Next the audience will be introduced to the strategy and migration that was employed. The decisions made to undertake the project, the consulting model used, the timeline that we defined for implementation and how we managed the organizational change management. This section will include the technical migration plan employed as well as the testing and validation. It will briefly discuss the rationale of the implementation plan timing and adjustments that were made along the way. It will cover how to manage applications in the cloud including backups and managing the monthly maintenance cycles. We will share how our team adjusted and adapted our application administration processes for a cloud environment and how our work cycles have changed. We will also share our rollout plan and training approach and the strategies used to increase user engagement throughout the process. Finally, we will share with the audience our overall experience. We will show you how easy and painless the process can be and leave you wondering why you haven’t made the move to the cloud. It is our hope the audience will be able to relate to our experiences. That they will be able to draw similarities with their own situations and at a minimum take comfort in knowing they are not alone. Ideally, audience members will be able to take elements of our strategy and implementation plan and build a business case for migrating to the cloud and return to MOUS next year with success stories of their own. |

Asurion’s Quest to "Insure" Profitability with Oracle PCMCS Brian Deegan, Peloton Group |
Do you remember the last time you shattered your phone screen? Asurion
sure does! Although they are the superheroes of smart devices for many
people, even they can use a little help sometimes. Oracle Profitability and Cost Management Cloud Services (PCMCS) provides a robust, enterprise-grade allocation solution that is significantly more cost effective and easier to manage than previous on-premise solutions. Asurion implemented PCMCS to establish clear connections between the consumption of resources within the business and how those resources are used to drive customer and product profitability. Asurion started their journey to the cloud by migrating allocations from an existing on-premise custom Oracle Planning solution to PCMCS. The end result is a high-performing allocation solution, which provides improved result transparency and costs less. In this session, we will review how Asurion’s hybrid EPM deployment (existing on-prem DRM, Planning, HFM, etc.) accelerated their ability to take advantage of the PCMCS benefits and established a foundation for their cloud presence. We will also share best practices that the team developed, the superhero-like features, performance optimization, and reporting benefits, which contributed to the success of the Asurion PCMCS implementation. |

APEX
is the new EBS standard Francis Mignault, Insum, Oracle Ace Director |
Oracle E-Business Suite has been around since 1988. Lots of things changed in the IT world since the first version of an GUI based version of Oracle Forms around 1994. Yet, Oracle Forms (and Oracle Reports) are still a major part of the EBS development toolset. 25 years later, organizations are requesting IT agility and web application development from the venerable EBS infrastructure. Moving EBS on the cloud to facilitate cloning and projects provisioning, and adopting APEX for rapid web application development, is now the combination of choice to stay on top of your organization's requirements. Taking advantage of web technologies like HTML5 and CSS3, APEX creates responsive web applications using your existing SQL and PL/SQL skillsets. Integration between EBS and APEX is provided by a single sign-on engine and recreating the EBS context in APEX, including function security and data security (MOAC / operating units). This session will show how you can lift and shift your existing EBS on-premise instances to the Oracle Cloud to increase your IT agility. You will be able to see how EBS and APEX can integrate seamlessly to build enterprise grade applications. | 1:15 pm - 2:10 pm | VT425 |

Using Oracle Alerts to make EBS more efficient Jennifer Reinhart, General Dynamics |
This presentation will discuss the Oracle Alerts module and how it can be used to make your business more efficient. Alerts are most commonly used to send important messages. Telling you that a project’s billing has exceeded 90% of its funding, for example. Or that a sales order for over a million dollars has been entered or cancelled, so you can promptly thank the customer, or try to win the order back. Did you know alerts can also submit concurrent programs and SQL scripts? If an alert finds an issue it is monitoring for, it could page the appropriate person and then submit analysis reports so that when the user logs in, the results are waiting for him. An alert can monitor for a customer’s 1000th order, and enter a thank-you credit in the Receivables invoice interface with all the details, ready for you to import. | 10:40 am - 11:35 am | W210A |

Why
Data Exploration is Important and How OAC Will Help You Get There Jim Kubik, Interrel |
Data Visualization is the newest member of the Oracle BI family! Whether you are using OBIEE or in the clouds with Oracle Analytic Cloud, or on the Desktop; Data Viz allows people to rapidly dig into their data and create visualizations off of many sources. This freedom of self-service often presents new challenges. People who are new to Data Visualization are often confused by all the possible visualization options or they do not know which to use for their data story or they pick the wrong visualization. We will discuss the various visualization types; showing where and how they are best used to help tell the data story and drive deeper data discovery. | 10:40 am - 11:35 am | VT460 |

Getting Into the Business Intelligence Game: Migrating OBIA to the Cloud Doug Hahn, Datavail |
Cloud solutions continue to expand into the mainstream with obvious material value for businesses that have historically focused on their on-premise solutions. With all major concerns for security in the cloud addressed by bank grade encryption, integration by REST APIs and other supported interfaces, and a growing base of supported production customers, the concerns are turning to action. But there are still lingering questions on architectural best practices and the general approach to move from on premise to the cloud especially for multi-tiered solutions such as Oracle BI Applications. Questions are now less about concern and more about how to move forward. How much of the on-premise software architecture can be migrated to the cloud? And, how can it be done with best practices with the least risk and exposure? And, while getting it right the first time? This session discusses best practice architecture for migrating the Oracle BI Applications to the cloud. It focuses on the Oracle cloud platform and database services, with a nod to infrastructure services, to lay out the idea of the hybrid cloud, and variations of the new age cloud BI/DW architecture for your analytics environment to succeed while operating at the same reliability or better all the while benefiting from what the cloud offers best. | 1:15 pm - 2:10 pm | VT460 |
