Jess ~ A
Whereas my own Jess has very thick red tinted dark brown hair, I have heard that some of the Jess's have thinner hair. If it weren't for the fact that I ordered her the second she was released, that may have worried me, so I think it is worth being noted. You can always send a doll back until you find "your" Jess. That being said, I think that the slight yellowish tint to her skin is accurate, and her coloring is absolutely gorgeous. There is not a single outfit that I have which she does not look great in! She looks a lot like my Mother as a girl, and my Mother is of the exact same heritage (add a dash of German and English and Cheyenne Indian with the Irish from grandpa and a 100% Japanese grandma). I do not think they could have been more accurate except perhaps to make the eyes a "tad" more asian.
I had to line all of my dolls up to distinguish the different "tints" of skin. It's a very interesting subject to ponder!

Jess is so cute! She is my current extra-special favorite 18" dollie. The new face mold makes her a clincher. Apparently she is not selling as hot as Marisol (the dancing queen). This, and her being the first and potentially only doll with her cute, cute face mold will likely make Jess go for higher prices on the secondary market.

Jess A for looks, C for quality.
I really adore my current Jess doll. The pictures really don't do her justice. Her hair is a lovely shade of brown red, with a little curl. Her face is just plain pretty. While she's believable as half asian, I think she could pass for almost any ethnicity in a pinch. She looks great even in Josefina's outfits (I don't have a Josefina doll but I have a lot of her clothes).
The negative on this doll is that there have been NUMEROUS complaints about quality control flaws. I myself had to return two before I found one without a problem. My first Jess had bald patches in her wig and hair that was falling out, and the second had crossed eyes. Ultimately, I had to go through nearly every doll in AGPLA to find one without a really bad wig or funky eyes. Since I had never had a problem with AG quality in the past, this was a shocker! Ask around and many other people have had similar problems.
If you're willing to hang in there and keep trying, though, ultimately you'll get a great doll.

Jess Doll Grade: A I love this doll. She is beautiful and we haven't had ANY issues. we bought her in January. She did have a slight head tilt but that just took a little adjusting of her stuffing. I love her hair colour. It is a deep dark brown with red high lights. One of the nice things about her is that her hair is way easy to take out and re-braid when you want to. She also has a new style part. A blocked zig zag: We love her and think she is quite beautiful.

I love this doll. But for different reasons than my others. I have been longing for a doll that resembles my mom when she was younger. Jess was it!!! Sidepart, curls, even the eyes. She is my dream doll and is truly cherished.

My daughter wanted Kaya or Jess for her birthday. I won a Kaya on Ebay with almost all of her outfits and then she decided she wanted Jess because she was an LE. She figures she'll ask for Kaya for Christmas. My daughter and I both love Jess but we thought that she was a little browner or tan from the pics we'd seen. To us she has pale skin with a slight green tint.
I give her an A for looks. She'd have an A+ if she had a tan.

i just got jess today and I have a wierd problem... Is it normal for her hair to be longer in the front than in the back? it's not too short in the back but it is a noticeable difference.
besides that she is lovely and I am a very big jess fan!!

OK so I am looking for a better description of your problem with her hair. Could you take a picture maybe and then we can see what you mean? I think our dolls hair is a little longer in the front but it isn't really noticeable.

One of the nice things about her is that her hair is way easy to take out and re-braid when you want to. Hi! So glad to see this thread. My dd saved up and bought Jess and we haven't touched her hair yet. Dd is nervous to undo her braids because how would we get it back to the same braid look? I spent about 30 minutes studying the braid this am and practicing on a smaller doll, but couldn't manage to copy that same look. Mind you, I am rather challenged in the girly-girl art of hair. Sad, but true. So - how is the Jess braid accomplished? It looks very different than a "classic" braid like Molly (although we don't have Molly) and the braiding I used to make rugs (long story). Anyway - Jess Hair Help please! Clutzy Coco Kelli

I really like my Jess doll, and I have had no problems with her. However, I think AG has definitely had some quality control issues with this doll. I love her hair color and part, but I can see how some people are frustrated. The only thing that I have noticed about my Jess is her eyes are uneven. But I think that this is just something with the face mold and every Jess basically has this problem. I've also noticed that my Jess has a bigger upper body than my other dolls. Asides from those minor problems, I think that Jess is great. I really love her pajamas, 2-in-1 kayaking outfit, meet outfit, and accessories. I think the tree is okay, I just don't like how she lays in it and how the speaker is on the bottom of the tree. I think my least favorite part though is the kayak. This part of the collection seems like a bit much (as does the scooter), I have yet to use it and I only blew it up to see if it had any holes. I must say though, I really do like the scooter. Although the scooter seems a bit impractical for a ten-year-old, this piece is very cute! My only problem with this piece was the cost! That was far too much for the scooter. Overall, I really like Jess and her collection. I would recommend to anyone that doesn't have her yet, get her before she's gone! You'll love her!

I just got Jess last week and I love her. I wasn't planning on getting her but with her retiring soon I went ahead and ordered her. She's gorgeous- so much prettier in person than on the AG website.

Three of my friends has Jess, and she is very cute! And Kelli, about Jess's braids, I know you have them pretty much figured out (I saw when I was at your house) but just braid normally, except hold the hair loosely and don't pull the hair tight after you finish braiding a bit. This should give you the look that Jess had when she came, and if the hair just pops out, spray the hair with water constantly when you are braiding.

Thank you mom4natalie. Do you have Jess or are you going to order her? I would recommend you do if you have not already. She is beautiful in person. Everytime I pass her in my bedroom and look at that cute face, I have to hold her. She is really growing on me. I think Felicity is getting jealous! I would give her an A. The only thing I don't like about her is that she sheds and that makes me nervous considering that her hair is so thin.

I just opened Jess last night, and started playing with her hair today. She has spots in her hair where it almost seems to be glued together--I was trying to untangle it as if it were my daughter's hair, and saw white/clear stuff holding the strands together. And at the point where it was stuck, the hair basically just snapped off. Is this "normal" for doll hair--does it have something to do with the styling of it? Or is it something "wrong" that I should worry about. I think that I got most of the spots and just let the hair snap off where ever it wanted, because I know that my kids are going to brush her hair anyway. But I was a little alarmed at what seemed like a lot of hair lying in my lap when I was finished. (Many strands, not a huge pile. I'm losing more hair than she is, lol.) I just love her, though. I don't want to mess up her hair, but her face is so pretty that I'd like her just as much bald. Janet

Honestly Janet, if that happened to my Jess, I would take her to the AG store, or if that's not possible for you, at least call AG... (Isn't it odd to find some sort of glue in a doll's hair? At least ask them what it could be. As much as we collect these dolls, they are still playthings.) My Jess was in A+ condition, but I personally selected her after looking at five or six rows of different Jess dolls. They all have slightly differing faces and hair quality, so I wanted to be sure that I picked the right girl. *sigh* I am such a perfectionist when it comes to dolls. Everyone who sees Jess's "stuff" at my place jokes at how lucky she is... (Her stuff not only comes from Jess's world, but the worlds of Felicity, Molly, AGOT, etc.) Why not? Don't regular folks collect antiques in their homes and wear vintage gowns? Sparklemonkey

I got my Jess yesterday and took her hair out last night-her hair seems fine, other than a couple strands breaking off when I was trying to get it out of the braids-but the plastic bands are tricky for me-I use them for small braids usually. Mine was actually purchassed in March so I had to wait awhile until I could actually play with her. Jess is a wicked cute doll who has lots of personality. Her hair is a pretty color with the red highlights. I think her meet outfit is cute. I would wear a skirt like hers if I had one. The halter top can pair with a plain pair of jeans or shorts. Her sandals are nice and versatile, too. ETA: A new paragraph, above, and a couple more photos of my lovely Jess:

DD got Jess for Christmas, and I just have to say how pretty I think she is!! I hadn't read the reviews prior, so I knew nothing about her hair. But the first thing I noticed was the reddish highlights! I think it makes her that much more pretty and unique. She really is a beautiful doll!

I just noticed that my daughter's Jess doll has a plastic tie around her neck instead of the strings like her older dolls. Is this the way she was supposed to be made? Do any of you have Jess dolls with the strings? We purchased her in November at the Chicago store.

Mine has strings. That's weird thet your daughter's has the neck ties. But I got mine online so I'm not sure if has something to do with the online or store difference?

I give Jess an A for looks, but a B- for her hair. It is thin and hard to control. The hair is cut in the back of her head, which is intentional but it makes it very thin back there. Besides that, Jess looks great in everything. I took out her braids because I don't really like it when her hair is back.

I just got my Jess today. I love her! Her hair is amazing! Black, but in the right light, with red highlights. It is pretty free-fly. Another thing I love about her is her face-mold. Here is some trivia: Jess' face mold is unique. No other doll has it (yet). Jess looks good in Nicki's meet outfit (which is currently all I have to spare for her) but I don't think she would look good in green or yellow... Here are some pics I have of her. For more, visit her PhotoStory: Jess in braids Just for comparison, I took only one of Jess' braids out Jess with both braids out (I secured some of her hair with a black hair clip) Jess acting a little goofy with her meet underwear on her head A close-up of her face

My Ebay Jess arrived Monday but I only got to see her last night. I love everything about her. Her hair is easily managed (much better then the rest of my dolls and definitly better then my little sister's Nicki). Her outfit is beautiful and I love the face mold.
I will post pictures later.

Here are a couple photos of Jess that I recently bought from Thimbleberry. She is my first LE doll. I can't believe how awesome she looks. Her hair is nice and thick and so much fun to brush and style. She has the cutest little nose too. She arrived a couple weeks ago during a snowstorm so she quickly changed into something warm and cozy. I feel so lucky to have her. A+
