Former Student Returns to Teach Breakdancing

Meet Steven Trujillo, a professional choreographer whose journey has led him back to his roots, igniting a passion for dance within El Monte City School District’s (EMCSD) youngest learners. Mr. Steven, as his students refer to him, is a former Gidley School alum, attending from kindergarten through eighth grade and now he has introduced an exciting Breakdancing 101 program to EMCSD students. EMCSD 4th Graders Take Over Sacramento

Breaking new ground in the El Monte City School District (EMCSD), 4th graders embarked on a remarkable journey to California’s capital. This year, EMCSD allocated funds to send each 4th grader to Sacramento for a one-day study trip, offering them a rare chance to explore the city of trees and enrich their learning experience.

EMCSD Teachers Learn at The Cheech

A group of teachers from El Monte City School District (EMCSD) spent a day at The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture to learn how to bring culturally appreciative art practices into their classrooms. This is part of EMCSD’s initiative to provide applicable professional development (PD) that compliments their educational goals. Specific to EMCSD’s art education, teachers are focusing on developing opportunities to cultivate respect, empathy, and solidarity with historically marginalized groups of people.

EMCSD Honors Local Emergency Relief Association Legend

El Monte City School District (EMCSD) and their Board of Education honored Lillian Rey, the Executive Director of the El Monte & South El Monte Emergency Resource Association (ERA) for her dedication to the families throughout the community. After four decades of service, she is officially retiring.

Since Southern California’s first school was constructed here in 1852, El Monte has honored the education of its children and has grown into a thriving community of fourteen schools, which incudes five California Distinguished Schools and six ERP Honor Roll Schools, all dedicated to preparing our students for the challenge of a 21st century education.
