Converse x ShoeBiz – End of the World – Holiday Pack

Here is a Sneak Peek for this years third and final collection of Limited Edition Chuck Taylor’s for the San Francisco City Pack, featuring artwork by local artists Alán González and Kris Mestizo. The Holiday Pack collaboration for 2012 between Converse x ShoeBiz x Youth Against Poverty is the last Collection of the Year, or even, possibly the last collection of the World. ShoeBiz is donating 100% of the project earnings and proceeds towards Youth Against Poverty and Compass Family Services. The project is intended to highlight and help homeless, drug-free, working families in San Francisco. The profits of these sneakers will directly support and help stabilize a deserving family in need. To date, proceeds have raised $12,000, resulting in 20 families now living in fully furnished homes after a 2 year wait.  The number of benefiting families will continue to grow through the end of the year.

Both artists drew inspiration from the Aztec & Mayan beliefs and culture and the unknown for their designs for their newest sneakers. Alán González’s design is a tribute to the End of the Aztec Calendar and to the City of San Francisco. “I had to go out with a big bang for the last collection of the year or even as the last collection of the world as we know it today,” says González. Kris Mestizo’s design is inspired by the mystery of outer space and Aztec prints. “As a kid, I was fascinated by what might be out there,” says Mestizo. “Now I’m older and nothing has changed”

The final collection for the San Francisco Holiday City Pack Collection will be available December 21, 2012 in unisex sizes 3-13 at ShoeBiz locations across San Francisco and online at www.shoebizsf.com.

 Suggested Retail Price: $60

About the Artists

Alán González, a California native, grew up along the coasts of Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Today he resides in San Francisco and continues to explore assorted elements in the art world, working with various mediums including ceramics, printmaking, screen-printing, sculpture, graphic design, video, web design and photography. “It is a beautiful and fulfilling feeling to give and help someone with my work and passion,” says González. “I am pleased and honored to be able to collaborate with Converse and give back to those less fortunate.”

Kris Mestizo was introduced to the art world through his father Michael Nieto at the young age of 5. Growing up in San Francisco, he found inspiration for his work through the art, architecture and colors seen throughout the city. “Designing is a passion of mine and I plan to continue to pursue it and sharpen my skills overtime,” says Mestizo. “Projects like this one with Converse is the kind of support that gives us the drive we as artists need to survive.”

Adrian Wilson Comes through to Youth Against Poverty’s Pop-Shop

A week from tomorrow — January 20 — Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson will use his High Point Shoes store (and himself) to help raise money for medical care, supplies and a medical clinic for needy children in Haiti.

From 4 to 7 p.m. on that Friday, Wilson will autograph every pair of shoes purchased and autograph other items for a $20 donation (there will also be signed photos available for $10), with all the money benefiting Global Family Philanthropy and Youth Against Poverty with help from The Adrian Wilson Foundation. (Wilson also donated $70,000 worth of shoes to the cause). It is all tax deductible. Many shoes available will also be heavily discounted.

This will all take place at the Scottsdale Waterfront, 7135 E Camelback Rd., between Wilson’s High Point store and Sauce restaurant. The fund-raising will go on both this weekend and next in the same place to raise money.

Shoes painted by Kris Mestizo.

Thanks to all that have made this possible.
