Kennedy Quay Panorama

A wide view of Kennedy Quay, going on to Albert Quay in Cork. Buildings are reflected in the River Lee and a green ship is seen docked on the quay.

Kennedy Quay in Cork in February 2024 before the R&H Hall building was demolished. Look to the right, and you’ll see Albert Quay and the new buildings there. This whole area will look quite different in only a few years.

Careful on a bike

A young man on a bike weaves through the pedestrian traffic behind a group of women walking in front of him, and just in front of me, the photographer.

Weaving in and out between people walking along a pedestrianised street in Malaga, this delivery guy made good pace, without upsetting many people, thankfully.

A near miss on the water

The light trails of two boats on a canal in Amsterdam show a near miss as they pass each other at night. The bridges they pass under are lit up under the arches while houses dominate overhead and trees line a nearby street.

I captured a near miss when I made this long exposure shot of a canal in Amsterdam. Two boats were heading towards each, and it was only by gunning the engines of the one that went under the bridge on the right that they missed each other. People on board must have watched nervously, but it all turned out OK in the end.

The photo was taken just about here on Google Maps at the junction of Keizersgracht and Leidsegracht. The first night I walked past, the lights had been turned off as we were out too late but the next night was worth the walk there.

Sunset at Ventura Pier

Just after sunset looking out on the Pacific at the Ventura Beach Pier. Waves roll in in the foreground.

The waves roll in on the beach at Ventura Beach while the pier extends out into the sea. The pier was damaged in storms and closed in early 2023, but still made for a great subject at sunset.

I have so many photos of this pier from that night. I’ll be posting photos of it again over the next year or two.

Ready to race

Bunched up at Dawstown

Horses jump over a fence while those in front have already landed and are rushing on

I attended the point to point horse racing this afternoon at Dawstown, Co. Cork, with others from Blarney Photography Club. We were lucky with the weather, even if it did become cold later on.

There was a good crowd there, and I recognised some faces from last year. If the shouting from the crowd is anything to go, they enjoyed the day too!

An empty street in Seaside

An empty road in the town of Seaside that looks very like a road in the movie The Truman Show. The road is made of red bricks, white picket fences line the sides of the road under trees, and a few parked cars line the road. There's an ornate building at the end of the road.

This is something you won’t see often in The Truman Show, it’s an empty street.

It’s not the same road as the one with the traffic jam in the movie, but it’s similar. It’s surreal walking around the town of Seaside in Florida after seeing The Truman Show.
