As a kid I used to love building forts. I would collect all the in the house (much to my mum's exasperation), all the , and every single pillow off every single bed in the house. My brother would help me and we would make such as a mess, but it was so much fun.
The most important thing about building a fort is the strategic placement of the cushions and to stop the entire thing from caving down on top of you. Between two couches was always the best place to set yourself up as it gives you a good base to work from and you can go from there.
My brother and I would sit inside our fort for hours. We would play games, read stories, tell ghost stories by torchlight and even beg mum to let us eat out dinner in there. When it got cold we would take off the doona cover and wrap it around us to keep use warm. It is some of my fondest childhood memories. Eventually mum would nag for her back and it was all over.

When I had two kids I wanted to teach them how to build the best forts. I found the best and taught them everything I knew. Some nights I can't coax them out of their fort until bedtime. Their mum, like mine, isn't too happy about all her linen and cushions being used, but she sees how much fun the kids have.
