At the same time, Mama Africa is a non-profit association that actively cares for and successfully supports women and girls. For Isha it is important to empower and help women them cope with the problems of everyday life so that they can master the future independently. In the Art Garden of Mama Africa you will find nine guesthouses – arranged as in a local village around the so called “Bantaba”, the traditional center of the villages and in this case it is the centre of the Art Residence.

The “Bantaba” is the meeting place for our guests, sitting relaxed together and let the day end comfortably.

WHERE ART COMES TO NATURE

Mama Africa is a wonderful escape to be inspired by the art and culture of West Africa. Isha Fofana has created an exclusive atmosphere with her unique gallery, her natural garden – a green oasis – and the nine spacious, individually designed guesthouses. All rooms are artfully furnished and have a size of at least 50 square meters with a modern bathroom.

The Art Residence is located close to the sea – less than a 10-minute walk from the beach – and is an ideal starting point for further individual excursions to the countryside, e.g. a boat trip on the Gambia River or a trip to neighboring Senegal. The fish landing in Tanji is every day a colorful spectacle and the Tanji Bird Reserve is very close. And if you want, you can simply enjoy the warm Africa sun and the pleasant tranquillity of Mama Africa with the breeze from the ocean and let yourself be inspired by the artistic ambience.

Regional, seasonal, fresh, a little experimental and always a “Touch of Gambia” – that’s how we would describe our cuisine.

The breakfast consists of daily fresh bread from a bakery project, good coffee, African herbal teas, freshly squeezed juices, egg specialties with organic eggs from our own chickens, home-made jams, local yogurt, cereals, Gambian peanut butter, local honey, peanut rice and more culinary delights.
